Los Angeles, CA (February 14, 2025)—Celebrated Mexican singer-songwriter Joan Sebastian was revered for his heartfelt balladry and intimate, passionate performances. A decade after his passing, his music continues to touch fans around the world. Today, Craft Latino is thrilled to continue his legacy, and honor the 10^th anniversary of Joan Sebastian’s passing, through a special remix collaboration helmed by Latin DJ, multi-instrumentalist and producer, Sinego, who reimagined four of Sebastian’s biggest hits: “Secreto de amor,” “Más allá del sol,” “Sentimental” and “Maracas.” The first-ever dance remixes of these iconic Regional Mexican ballads will be released individually over the next six months, while the Secreto de amor (Las noches) remix EP, which collects all four tracks, will be available on August 1st.

The campaign kicks off today with a fitting track for Valentine’s Day, “Secreto de amor (La noche),” a 124 BPM electronic remix that is romantic and nostalgic, with hypnotic rhythms and a haunting chorus, that keeps the beautiful essence of the original love ballad alive. The original version of the song, which served as the title track of Sebastian’s certified 4x platinum studio album released in 2000 via Discos Musart, became one of the artist’s signature hits—topping Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart and landing at No.3 on the Hot Latin Songs chart, while also earning an ASCAP Award, a Lo Nuestro Award, and a nomination for Hot Latin Track of the Year at the Billboard Latin Music Awards. In the 25 years since its release, “Secreto de amor” has been covered by a handful of stars, including Lucero and Víctor García, while it served as the theme song to the Venezuelan telenovela of the same name. Known as “El Rey del Jaripeo” (The King of Mexican Rodeo) and “El Poeta del Pueblo” (The People’s Poet), Joan Sebastian (April 8, 1951 – July 13, 2015) was one of Mexico’s most successful and prolific artists, who penned over 1,000 songs during his four-decade career. Born José Manuel Figueroa in the village of Juliantla, Guerrero, Mexico, the singer, songwriter, and actor released his debut LP in 1975 via Discos Musart, the prestigious Mexican label under which Sebastian would release nearly three dozen albums and seven Top Ten hits on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart (including 2006’s “Más allá del sol” and “Secreto de amor”).

Sebastian, who died in 2015 following a lengthy battle with bone cancer, remains one of Mexico’s most celebrated musicians, who not only sold millions of his own records worldwide, but also wrote hits for stars like Pepe Aguilar, Lucero, Vicente Fernández, and Rocío Dúrcal, among many others. During his life, the decorated artist received a variety of honors, including four GRAMMY® Awards, seven Latin GRAMMYs (he is the most awarded Mexican performer in GRAMMY history), an incredible 43 ASCAP Awards, and four Billboard Latin Music Awards. During his successful career, he landed on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart 42 times. In 2006, Sebastian was inducted into Billboard Latin Music Hall of Fame. While Sebastian’s work spanned pop, soft rock, and country, the versatile artist was best known for his regional Mexican hits, including banda, mariachi, and norteño styles.

The four songs featured in the Secreto de amor (La noches) EP—released between 1989 and 2006—fall under this classic era. When considering artists to reimagine these songs for a new generation, Sinego was the natural choice. The Mexico-based singer, multi-instrumentalist, and DJ is known for embracing the diverse styles of regional Latin music and pairing them with underground electronic beats—resulting in some of dance music’s most exciting and refreshing new sounds.

When asked by Uproxx how he feels about representing Latin American music, folklore, and culture in the dance music space, Sinego said, “It was time to do it. For a long time, artists from Europe were sampling a lot of music from Latin America, but the credit was going more towards those spaces. It’s good now that Latin America is finally getting the benefits of its music that’s exported worldwide. It’s also a responsibility, because if no one is doing it, then it’s not going to happen.”  Journalist Lucas Villa wrote in Billboard, “The artist is giving the age-old sound a new and incredibly intoxicating spin.”

Sinego’s inspiration for reimagining these classic Joan songs came from seeking to make a unique connection: “While living in Mexico, I found that the life-blood of music is artists like Joan Sebastian and Chalino [Sánchez]. And although genres like Afrohouse and Reggaeton are present in the music scene of the country, there wasn’t an electronic re-work of something truly Mexican. These four tracks are designed to connect the charro and countryside culture of Mexico with the new dancefloor-oriented world that lives in cities like Mexico City, Tulum and Guadalajara.”

Named by GRAMMY.com as one of “7 Latin DJs to Watch” in 2023 and selected by Beatport to be among their “Next” artists for 2024, Sinego is quickly becoming a global sensation. In addition to producing official remixes for the likes of Sofi Tukker, Bomba Estéreo, Elsa y Elmar, and Matanza (Rodrigo Gallardo), Sinego has performed on high-profile stages across the world, including EDC Mexico, and Lightning in a Bottle festival, as well as Ibiza’s Playa Soleil and Dolce & Gabbana’s Marbella club.

Profiled in The Fader and Popdust, Sinego also curates the popular Spotify playlist “Track IDs,” and hosts Apple Music’s official Viajero mix series, in which he collaborates with influential Latin American artists. Last year, Sinego released his debut album, Alterego, in which he blends an array of regional Latin music with modern dance aesthetics.

Un personaje que produjo más de 1,000 canciones a través de una carrera de cuatro décadas. Por mucho tiempo los artistas de Europa sampleaban mucha música de América Latina, pero el crédito de ese trabajo se iba más hacia esos espacios. Es bueno que ahora América Latina finalmente está recibiendo los beneficios de que su música esté siendo exportada por todo el mundo. También es una responsabilidad, porque si nadie lo está haciendo, entonces no va a suceder nada”. La inspiración de Sinego para reimaginar estas canciones clásicas de Joan proviene de una búsqueda para tratar de realizar una conexión única: “Al vivir en México, descubrí que el ADN de su música proviene de artistas como Joan Sebastian y Chalino [Sánchez]. Y aunque hay géneros como en Afrohouse y el Reggaeton presentes en la escena musical del país, no existía una re-versión electrónica de algo verdaderamente mexicano. Estos cuatro tracks están diseñados para conectar la cultura de los charros y la vida rural de México con el mundo del club de baile electrónico que vive en la Ciudad de México, en Tulum y en Guadalajara”.
